Swift Door Installation at Mundesley Lifeboat Shed

Mundesley Lifeboat shed new doors

The Mundesley Lifeboat is a North Norfolk institution. The independent lifeboat service was founded in 1972 after the RNLI were unable to offer a specific service to the village. The villagers started a charity to fund their own boat to make sure that safety was a priority for the inshore waters off the coast at Mundesley.

The existing Lifeboat Shed had a sectional overhead door, but every second counts when it comes to launching a lifeboat. Cooks Doors was asked to replace the existing door with a set of Swift folding doors. These manually operated doors can be opened in just two seconds by trained personnel.

We fitted the door to the large structural opening (5700mm wide x 2690mm high) of Mundesley Lifeboat Shed. The shed is home to the latest Mundesley Lifeboat - the Edna Claxton - that was launched this year to celebrate 50 years of the Mundesley Lifeboat.

The door we supplied and installed is manually operated in six leaves, with three leaves folding to each side clear of the opening. The door was installed flush faced with no external hardware that would be exposed to the harsh environment of the coast.

Each panel measures 933mm and is finished in Merlin Grey Plastisol on the exterior and a white interior. The aluminium chamfered threshold plate ensures a smooth transition from the inside of the shed and the doors are easily locked and unlocked via the manual operation of four Espagnolette bolts without cylinders.
