Warehouses that are handling foodstuffs have to be especially careful to avoid contamination. Making sure that nothing gets into your warehouse that isn’t supposed to be there needn’t be a headache if you have the proper dock seals and shelters in place.
Warehouse Doors
Some warehouses just have a big door that lorries can reverse through, load up and then drive off. For some scales of business and product lines, this is perfectly adequate. For those businesses that are handling food, this set-up would run the risk of allowing contaminants in through the open door. The solution is proper loading docks with shelters or seals.
Hörmann Flap Dock Shelters
When a warehouse is properly set up for loading and unloading food and other perishable items, it is likely that a proper dock shelter system will be in place. One such is the Hörmann Flap Dock Shelter. These high-quality top and side flaps sit in front of your loading dock and fit around the lorry back as it reverses into position. The flaps are mounted on galvanised steel frame.
Practical Application Tip
Hörmann recommend the docking zone is equipped with wheel guides. These will ensure that the reversing lorry always docks properly. When correctly docked, the flap shelter will seal around the lorry back.
