Crash Doors: Not Just for Hospitals

Posted on 13/10/2016

When you think of crash doors, your first thought might well be of a team of surgeons surrounding a moving trolley and diagnosing a sick patient as he is rushed through crash doors and into surgery. Crash doors are designed to be crashed through (the clue is in the name) but they can be found in all sorts of buildings, not just hospitals.

Why have crash doors?

If you need to move quickly between two rooms of a building, then the quickest solution is simply a gap in the wall. However in many instances, a simple archway or open doorway is neither practical or desirable. Where noise pollution, energy conservation or infection prevention are factors, you will need some kind of door. The last factor is only really relevant in medical centres and hospitals but many businesses will benefit from reducing noise pollution and conserving energy. Crash doors offer a way to do this but still offer speed of movement between rooms.

What kind of buildings have crash doors?

We have installed crash doors in buildings all over East Anglia. In addition to hospitals, we have installed them in:

  • Retail units and supermarkets
  • Food preparation areas
  • Coldstores and cleanrooms
  • Warehouses
  • Industrial units and factories
  • Postal sorting offices

What can I get through my crash doors?

We can provide you with a specification that will allow a forklift truck through your crash doors. Our engineers will always ask you to specify to us what kind of traffic will be going through your crash doors to ensure that we get the right specification. We recommend that the width of the doors should be one and a half times the width of any proposed traffic (e.g pedestrians, trolleys, forklifts etc.)

Crash doors are not suitable for every property. At Cooks Industrial Doors, we also have ranges of security doors, rolling shutters, strip doors and plastic curtains.  To book a visit from one of our experts to assess the suitability of your premises for any kind of door, call us on 0800 0180304.
