Agridoors and Screens for East Anglia's Poultry Industry

Posted on 25/07/2017

Galebreaker’s patent mesh doors and screens are loved by the agricultural industry. The versatile systems can be used for barns containing larger farm animals such as pigs, cows and goats – ensuring these animals get sufficient light and air coming into their pens. Agridoors and screens can also be installed in modern poultry sheds – where the birds enjoy lots more light and space than they used to. East Anglia is famous for its poultry industry.

Agricultural Industry

About 39,000 people are employed directly by the agricultural industry in East Anglia. The region’s economy is heavily reliant on the income from agriculture as many more jobs in areas such as transport, engineering and veterinary science are dependent on a healthy agricultural sector. Supplying specialist doors to the agricultural industry has been a big part of our business over the last 50 years.

Industrial Agriculture

Birds are big business here in the East: Over 100 million eggs are laid on East Anglian farms every year. Eggs are characterised in four ways according to the conditions in which the animals are kept: Enriched Colony, Barn, Free Range and Organic. Legislation has improved the conditions that the birds are kept in, so the intensive cage farms have now disappeared from the landscape and all birds are able to engage in their natural behaviours such as roosting.

Fairer Conditions

These improved conditions mean that many farms want to increase the amount of natural light that their birds are getting, whilst minimising exposure to the elements. Galebreaker mesh doors and screens provide the perfect solution allowing in air and light whilst keeping out the worst of the rain.

Galebreaker provide a range of screen doors perfectly suited to farmers’ needs:

  • Bayscreens. Bayscreens are cut to the size of the aperture that a farmer needs covering. They are then clipped into place permanently or semi-permanently.
  • Roller doors. With a tensile strength of 3.3 tonnes, these roller doors stand up to heavy winds.
  • Roller screens. These hand-operated screens can be locked in place.
  • Maxi doors. Ideal for larger barns, these doors can fit openings up to 20 metres wide and 10.1 metres high.
