Braintree Waste Station: New Roller Shutter Doors

Christmas is a time for giving, receiving, eating and wasting! The UK produces nearly 300m tonnes of waste each year and the festive period doesn't help this figure. On average each household will fill up an extra five bags of waste over Christmas which calculates to over 700,000 tonnes of waste.
This includes:
- Enough Christmas trees to reach to New York and back
- Enough wrapping paper to go round the equator nine times
- 744 million Christmas cards
- Approximately 190,000 tonnes of food waste
- 13,350 tonnes of glass
- 4,500 tonnes of tin foil
Where does all this waste go?
Once the council has come out of hibernation from the festivities they will start collecting our waste again and then take it to a waste transfer station. This is a facility where municipal waste (general waste and recyclable materials) is temporarily held, sorted and reloaded onto larger transport vehicles to be taken for recycling or disposal.
These vehicles transport it to:
- Landfill
- Incinerators
- Hazardous waste facilities
- Recycling centres
We were asked to manufacture and install eight roller shutter doors at the new Braintree Transfer Station on behalf of a Cambridgeshire based contractor. Transfer Stations need easy access for the collection vehicles to drop off the waste and the 5000mm x 6000mm doors we installed are robust and reliable, making them perfect for industrial and commercial use.
They need little but periodic maintenance and have been manufactured from quality materials including heavy duty galvanised laths. The doors we fitted have been finished in Anthracite Grey colour and have some additional features such as:
- Internal/external red and green traffic lights
- A push button in the weighbridge office
- Internal mushroom button
- Auto time return facility
